About Me

I've always been a reader. When I was a kid I could always be found in a corner with a book, no matter where we were. After spending too much time on social media in the past twenty years, I've abandoned all that in favor of a bookish blog in the hopes of reminding my brain what it's like to have an attention span. 

My tastes are varied. I read mostly fiction, mostly contemporary, but that's certainly not my entire reading life. I have a goal to read all of In Search of Lost Time and to get through my collection of NYRB titles (currently have about 65 of those). I love a good Victorian doorstopper, and just try to keep me away from Virginia Woolf. 

My husband and I live in San Diego with our aging dog (age 15 and still puttering along!). I work from home and he is in grad school. We love watching baseball and tennis as well as traveling and seeing the world. I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune condition and am on immunosuppressents, so the world has gotten a bit trickier to navigate, but we're doing our best and enjoying the journey.

I love fall. What a cliche, but it's true. I grew up in New England, spent 20 years in the Midwest, and am now in California. Fall looks different, but the vibe is the same. Even at age 49 and no children my brain is stuck on an academic calendar and newly purchased school supplies. I am much more likely to come up with goals and to dos in September than I am in January.  So here I am, starting a blog in 2022. Vacation Eve

 We leave on vacation tomorrow.  I finished up the bulk of my work by 1pm, so we brought the dog to boarding and went to sit at the bar at a neighborhood restaurant. All was ordinary until Susan and Joanne walked in.  We quickly learned they were regulars. Sisters. Susan is 79 and Joanne is 84, They are both divorced and have a chld/nephew getting married in Israel in February. Joanne wanted us to know she was an actress who never wanted to be famous, yet she name dropped the entire time. Susan is a still practicing psychotherapist who seems to tolerate Joanne. They were wonderful and I hope our paths cross again.  The night before vacation is like Christmas Eve to me, but with the awareness of an adult who can really do whatever they want. So...I watched the Astros beat the Phillies and then caught up on Bakeoff while packing and texting with my NYC friends we are headed to see tomorrow...all with a bottle of very good wine.
